Upgrade Admidio to version 5.0.9 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched. Applying this official fix eliminates the path traversal issue and the associated risks. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A path traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) exists in Admidio versions prior to 5.0.9 in the add mode of modules/documents-files.php. The vulnerability arises because the 'name' parameter is only validated as a string with HTML encoding, allowing traversal sequences (../) to bypass filters. Lack of CSRF protection and SameSite=Lax session cookies enable a low-privileged attacker to trick a documents administrator into registering arbitrary server files, such as configuration files containing sensitive data, into accessible document folders. This issue is fixed in version 5.0.9.
