Technical Analysis

Spring Cloud Sleuth versions 3.1.0 through 3.1.13 contain an uncontrolled resource consumption vulnerability (CWE-400) that can be triggered by specially crafted calls when Spring TX instrumentation is enabled. This can lead to a denial-of-service condition, impacting availability. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.5, indicating high severity. There is no vendor advisory or patch available at this time, and the vulnerability is not related to a cloud service. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can cause denial-of-service by exhausting resources, leading to application unavailability. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity according to the CVSS vector. The vulnerability affects availability only.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, consider disabling Spring TX instrumentation if feasible to mitigate the risk. Monitor vendor communications for updates on patches or official mitigations.
