Technical Summary
CVE-2026-42558 is a high-severity vulnerability in xibo-cms prior to version 4.4.2. It involves improper neutralization of input during web page generation (CWE-79), combined with iframe sandbox escape, allowing users with DataSet permissions to perform stored XSS attacks. The exploit requires an authorized user with privileges to add DataSets, enabling them to craft messages that escape iframe sandboxing and execute malicious scripts. This vulnerability is fixed in version 4.4.2.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation can lead to cross-site scripting attacks with high confidentiality impact and limited integrity impact, allowing an attacker to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of the CMS web application. This can compromise user data confidentiality and potentially facilitate further attacks within the application context. Availability impact is not affected.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade xibo-cms to version 4.4.2 or later, which contains the fix for this vulnerability. If upgrading is not immediately possible, revoke the DataSet creation privileges from users who are not fully trusted to prevent exploitation. No other mitigations are specified.
