AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected linux-azure kernel versions to resolve this vulnerability. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this issue has been fixed in updated kernel packages. Users should update their systems to the fixed kernel versions as provided by their distribution.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's netfilter nf_conntrack_helper subsystem was resolved. The issue occurs because nf_conntrack_helper_unregister() passes NULL instead of the helper pointer during cleanup, causing expectations referencing the helper to survive and later dereference a freed helper object. This can lead to memory corruption and potential system compromise. The vulnerability affects specific linux-azure kernel versions and has a CVSS score of 7.8. A patch is available to properly destroy expectations before freeing the helper object.
