AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel as indicated by multiple fixed commit versions. Users should upgrade to a Linux kernel version that includes these fixes. No alternative mitigations are currently available or meet Red Hat's criteria for ease of use and applicability. Red Hat advises upgrading to a supported product version that includes the fix.

Description

CVE-2026-46033 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's authencesn cryptographic module where insufficient validation of authentication hash digest sizes during instance creation can lead to out-of-bounds memory access. This flaw allows local attackers to trigger system instability or denial of service by selecting an ahash digest size in the invalid range of 1 to 3 bytes. The vulnerability arises because the instance creation function does not properly reject short digest sizes, unlike other validation functions. This issue has been fixed in later commits of the Linux kernel.
