AI-suggested

A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions (7.0.0-27.27 and later). Users should update to the fixed kernel versions listed in the established facts to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's DAMON core allows users to set an arbitrary node ID (nid) for node_memcg_used_bp and node_memcg_free_bp without proper validation. This can lead to out-of-bounds memory access and potential kernel crashes. The issue is triggered by passing invalid node IDs, causing kernel paging faults. The vulnerability has been fixed by adding validation of the node ID, returning safe default values when invalid IDs are provided.
