CVE-2026-46394: CWE-78: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command ('OS Command Injection') in haxtheweb haxcms-php
HAX CMS helps manage microsite universe with PHP or NodeJs backends. Prior to version 26.0.0, an OS command injection vulnerability exists in the Git.php library of the HAXcms PHP backend. The application constructs shell command strings using unsanitized input and executes them via proc_open(). An attacker who can control parameters passed into Git operations can execute arbitrary OS commands with the privileges of the web server. Out of 17 functions that invoke shell commands only 1 function (`commit()`) correctly uses `escapeshellarg()`. When combined with another vulnerability that allows configuration manipulation, this issue can lead to full remote code execution and complete system compromise. Version 26.0.0 patches the issue.

Technical Summary
CVE-2026-46394 is an OS command injection vulnerability in haxtheweb's haxcms-php prior to version 26.0.0. The vulnerability arises from unsafe construction of shell command strings in the Git.php library, where user-controlled input is passed to proc_open() without proper sanitization or escaping. Only the commit() function correctly uses escapeshellarg(), while the other 16 functions do not, increasing the risk of command injection. Exploitation requires control over parameters passed to Git operations. Combined with a separate configuration manipulation vulnerability, this can lead to full remote code execution and complete system compromise. The issue is patched in version 26.0.0.
Potential Impact
An attacker able to influence parameters passed to Git operations can execute arbitrary OS commands with the privileges of the web server user. This can lead to remote code execution and potentially full system compromise if chained with another configuration manipulation vulnerability. The CVSS 4.0 score of 7.7 reflects high severity with network attack vector, high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability, and requiring low privileges but high attack complexity and partial user interaction.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade haxcms-php to version 26.0.0 or later, where this vulnerability is patched. No other official remediation or temporary fixes are documented. Until upgrading, restrict access to the affected Git operations to trusted users only to reduce exploitation risk.
