Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2026-47572) affects the NVIDIA GeForce GPU Display Driver for Linux. It is caused by type confusion in the kernel mode layer, allowing a local attacker with low privileges to potentially execute arbitrary code, cause denial of service, escalate privileges, disclose information, or tamper with data. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 7.8, indicating high severity, with attack vector local, low attack complexity, low privileges required, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

An attacker with local access and limited privileges could exploit this type confusion vulnerability to execute arbitrary code in kernel mode, disrupt system availability, escalate their privileges, access sensitive information, or modify data. This could compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official remediation information is provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the NVIDIA vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, limit local access to trusted users and monitor for unusual activity related to the GPU driver.
