Published: 07/24/2026 (07/24/2026, 18:44:05 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: kerberosmansour
Product: hulumi

Description

Hulumi is an open-source toolkit that ships secure-by-default cloud and platform infrastructure components for Pulumi. Prior to version 1.4.0, consumers running drift detection in CI / cron could see transient adapter failures silently cached as "all clear" — masking real attacks for up to six hours — or see ordinary provider-version churn falsely promoted to incident severity. Either way, the verdict source was unreliable for downstream incident workflows that gate on it. This issue has been patched in version 1.4.0.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in hulumi (CVE-2026-48036) is due to improper handling of exceptional conditions (CWE-755) in its drift detection mechanism used in CI or cron environments. Transient adapter failures were cached incorrectly as successful results, masking real security incidents for extended periods, or normal provider-version churn was misclassified as severe incidents. This undermines the reliability of incident gating workflows dependent on these verdicts. The flaw was addressed in hulumi version 1.4.0.

Potential Impact

Users running hulumi versions prior to 1.4.0 may experience false negatives where real attacks are masked for up to six hours, or false positives where routine provider-version changes trigger incident-level alerts. This reduces the reliability of security incident detection and response workflows relying on hulumi's drift detection verdicts, potentially delaying or misdirecting incident handling.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade hulumi to version 1.4.0 or later, where this issue has been patched. No other mitigation is indicated. Patch status is confirmed by the vendor advisory stating the fix is included in version 1.4.0.
