Published: Thu Jun 18 2026 (06/18/2026, 21:01:10 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: startreedata
Product: mcp-pinot

Description

mcp-pinot versions 3.0.1 and below run an unauthenticated HTTP MCP server bound to all interfaces, allowing any network-adjacent user to access critical functions such as SQL query execution, schema creation, and table configuration mutation. This leads to a confused-deputy vulnerability where the server uses its Pinot credentials to perform unauthorized read/write operations on the Pinot cluster. The issue is fixed in version 3.1.0.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability CVE-2026-49257 in startreedata's mcp-pinot affects versions up to 3.0.1. The MCP server runs on 0.0.0.0:8080 without authentication, exposing all MCP tools to any network-adjacent caller. Because the server proxies requests using its own Pinot credentials, attackers can gain full read and write access to the configured Pinot cluster, resulting in a critical security breach. This is a classic CWE-306 (Missing Authentication for Critical Function) vulnerability. The flaw is resolved in version 3.1.0.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker on the network can execute any MCP tool function, including SQL queries, schema creation, and table configuration changes, with the server's full read/write privileges on the Pinot cluster. This compromises confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the Pinot data and services.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade mcp-pinot to version 3.1.0 or later, where authentication is enforced for the MCP server. Until upgraded, restrict network access to the MCP server to trusted hosts only to reduce exposure. Patch status is confirmed fixed in 3.1.0.
