Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-49488 is a path traversal vulnerability in Apache OpenMeetings affecting versions from 5.0.0 before 9.1.0. The vulnerability allows an attacker with moderator rights to craft download requests that bypass pathname restrictions, enabling access to arbitrary files on the server's filesystem accessible by the OS account running OpenMeetings. This can lead to disclosure of sensitive information such as credentials and secrets. The vulnerability is resolved in version 9.1.0.

Potential Impact

An attacker with moderator privileges can read arbitrary files on the server, potentially exposing sensitive information including credentials and secrets. This compromises confidentiality of data accessible to the OpenMeetings server OS account.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache OpenMeetings to version 9.1.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other official remediation or temporary fixes are indicated. Patch status is not explicitly stated in the vendor advisory, but the description clearly recommends upgrading to 9.1.0 to resolve the issue.
