VulnerabilityCVE-2026-49495cvecve-2026-49495
Published: 06/10/2026 (06/10/2026, 12:36:43 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: nationalsecurityagency
Product: ghidra

Description

Ghidra 10.2 before 12.1 contains an uncontrolled resource consumption vulnerability in ExportTrie.parseTrie() that lacks cycle detection when traversing Mach-O binary export tries. A crafted Mach-O binary with circular references in the export trie causes unbounded queue growth and exponential string concatenation, triggering OutOfMemoryError that crashes the entire JVM and loses all unsaved work.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-49495 describes an uncontrolled resource consumption vulnerability in Ghidra 10.2 and earlier versions before 12.1. The issue occurs in the ExportTrie.parseTrie() method, which lacks cycle detection when traversing Mach-O binary export tries. A maliciously crafted Mach-O binary containing circular references in the export trie can cause unbounded queue growth and exponential string concatenation. This leads to an OutOfMemoryError that crashes the Java Virtual Machine running Ghidra, causing loss of all unsaved data.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in a denial of service condition by crashing the JVM due to OutOfMemoryError. This causes loss of unsaved work and disrupts analysis activities within Ghidra. There is no indication of privilege escalation or code execution from the provided data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should avoid processing untrusted or suspicious Mach-O binaries with Ghidra versions prior to 12.1 to prevent triggering the vulnerability.
