Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-5092 is a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the Greenshift – animation and page builder blocks WordPress plugin. The flaw arises from improper neutralization of input in the customapi action handler, where API responses are not sufficiently sanitized before being output using innerHTML. Authenticated attackers with Contributor-level privileges or above can exploit this to inject arbitrary web scripts that execute in the context of users viewing the injected pages. The vulnerability affects versions up to and including 12.8.9. No official patch or remediation guidance is currently available.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows an attacker with Contributor-level access or higher to inject persistent malicious scripts into pages. These scripts execute in the browsers of users who visit the compromised pages, potentially leading to theft of sensitive information, session hijacking, or other malicious actions within the context of the affected site. The vulnerability does not affect availability but impacts confidentiality and integrity.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict Contributor-level access to trusted users only and consider monitoring for suspicious activity related to page content modifications. Avoid exposing the customapi action handler to untrusted users if possible.
