Description
A slab-out-of-bounds vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mlx5 network driver (CVE-2026-53230) has been fixed. The flaw occurs in the mlx5_query_nic_vport_mac_list function, where the firmware command buffer is sized incorrectly when querying a virtual function (VF) vport with a larger configured maximum. This can lead to a buffer overflow and kernel memory corruption. The issue is resolved by correctly sizing the buffer using the vport's own HCA capabilities and refactoring the function to internally allocate and return the MAC list. Multiple linux-aws versions prior to 6.8.0-1064.67~22.04.1 are affected. A patch is available and included in fixed kernel releases starting with 6.8.0-1064.67~22.04.1 and later.
