What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to check the priv pointer for NULL before cleanup in wm_adsp_control_remove(). Users should apply the official kernel update that includes this patch. Since this is a kernel-level issue, updating to the fixed kernel version is the recommended remediation. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed here; users should consult the Linux kernel vendor advisory for the exact fixed versions and update accordingly.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ASoC wm_adsp component could cause a NULL pointer dereference when removing firmware controls. This occurs because wm_adsp_control_remove() does not check if the private data pointer is NULL before attempting cleanup. The issue arises in cases where private control data is not created, such as for SYSTEM controls or when a codec driver hides the control. This flaw can lead to a denial of service due to kernel crashes.
