What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to address this vulnerability by improving validation and configuration of ACR masks. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include these changes. No additional mitigation is indicated.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's perf subsystem for x86 Intel processors related to incomplete validation and configuration of ACR masks has been resolved. The issues included incomplete validation of user space ACR masks allowing invalid bits, early termination of configuration on invalid masks causing skipped ACR groups, and stale hardware ACR masks not being cleared before new settings. The fix improves validation by dropping invalid bits rather than aborting, clears stale hardware masks, and ensures full configuration of all ACR events. A theoretical risk remains if a non-leader ACR event is disabled, but this is unlikely to impact real use cases.
