CVE-2026-53975: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command ('OS Command Injection') in Bohdan Triapitsyn OpenChamber

0
Critical
Published: 08/06/2026 (08/06/2026, 15:32:45 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Bohdan Triapitsyn
Product: OpenChamber

Description

OpenChamber 1.11.7 contains an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability that allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary shell commands by sending crafted POST requests to the /api/fs/exec endpoint, which passes commands verbatim to Node.js spawn() without any allowlist, blocklist, or argument validation. The authentication middleware becomes a no-op when UI_PASSWORD is not configured, matching the default Docker deployment, enabling attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands as the application user and retrieve full command output including stdout, stderr, and exit code from the server response.

Technical Analysis

OpenChamber version 1.11.7 contains an unauthenticated OS command injection vulnerability. The /api/fs/exec endpoint accepts POST requests with commands that are passed verbatim to Node.js spawn() without any allowlist, blocklist, or argument validation. When UI_PASSWORD is not set, the authentication middleware is effectively disabled, enabling remote attackers to execute arbitrary shell commands as the application user and retrieve stdout, stderr, and exit codes from the server response. This vulnerability allows full remote code execution without authentication.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker can execute arbitrary OS commands on the server running OpenChamber 1.11.7. This leads to full remote code execution with the privileges of the application user. Attackers can also retrieve the output and exit status of executed commands, potentially allowing full system compromise or data exfiltration.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, do not deploy OpenChamber without configuring UI_PASSWORD or equivalent authentication to prevent unauthenticated access to the /api/fs/exec endpoint. Restrict network access to trusted users only.
