Published: 08/06/2026 (08/06/2026, 14:43:37 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Bohdan Triapitsyn
Product: OpenChamber

Description

OpenChamber 1.11.7 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to terminate the server process by sending a POST request to the /api/system/shutdown endpoint, which is registered before the authentication middleware in the Express route handler chain. Attackers can exploit the route registration order in bootstrap-runtime.js to reach the shutdown handler before auth middleware executes, causing denial of service to all active AI coding sessions and locking out legitimate remote users regardless of whether UI_PASSWORD is configured.

Technical Analysis

OpenChamber version 1.11.7 contains a critical authentication bypass vulnerability (CVE-2026-53977) due to the /api/system/shutdown endpoint being registered before the authentication middleware in the Express route handler chain. This allows unauthenticated remote attackers to send a POST request to this endpoint and terminate the server process, resulting in denial of service by disrupting all active AI coding sessions and locking out legitimate users. The issue stems from the route registration order in bootstrap-runtime.js, which permits access to the shutdown handler before authentication checks are performed.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows unauthenticated remote attackers to forcibly terminate the OpenChamber server process, causing denial of service to all active sessions and preventing legitimate remote users from accessing the service. This can disrupt operations relying on the AI coding sessions hosted by OpenChamber.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict network access to the OpenChamber server to trusted users only and monitor for unauthorized POST requests to /api/system/shutdown. Consider disabling or modifying the shutdown endpoint if possible.
