Vendor/Project: statamic
Product: cms

Description

Statamic is a Laravel and Git powered content management system (CMS). Prior to 5.73.24 and 6.20.1, the Glide image proxy's URL validation in src/Imaging/RemoteUrlValidator.php and src/Imaging/GuzzleAdapter.php could be bypassed using DNS rebinding. The remote hostname was validated as publicly routable, but resolved again when the image was actually fetched, so an attacker controlling the hostname's DNS could rebind it to an internal address after validation and cause the server to make HTTP requests to internal addresses, including loopback, private network, and cloud metadata endpoints. This affects sites that pass user-supplied URLs to Glide. This issue is fixed in versions 5.73.24 and 6.20.1.

Technical Analysis

Statamic CMS uses Glide image proxy functionality that validates remote URLs to ensure they are publicly routable before fetching images. However, in versions before 5.73.24 and 6.20.1, the validation process is vulnerable to a TOCTOU race condition where the hostname is resolved twice: once during validation and again during the actual fetch. An attacker controlling the DNS for the hostname can rebind it to an internal IP address after validation, causing the server to request internal resources. This vulnerability affects sites that pass user-supplied URLs to Glide and can lead to unauthorized internal network access. The vulnerability is identified as CVE-2026-54242 and is associated with CWE-367 (TOCTOU) and CWE-918 (Server-Side Request Forgery).

Potential Impact

An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to bypass URL validation and cause the server to make HTTP requests to internal network addresses, including loopback, private network, and cloud metadata endpoints. This can lead to unauthorized access to internal services and sensitive information leakage. The CVSS score is 4.9 (medium severity), reflecting limited but notable confidentiality and integrity impacts without availability impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

This vulnerability is fixed in Statamic CMS versions 5.73.24 and 6.20.1. Users should upgrade to these versions or later to remediate the issue. No other mitigation or temporary workaround is indicated in the available data.
