Published: 07/28/2026 (07/28/2026, 16:21:20 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: sparklemotion
Product: sqlite3-ruby

Description

sqlite3 provides Ruby bindings for the SQLite3 embedded database. In version 2.9.4 and earlier, redefining a SQLite function with a different arity frees the previously registered function handler while SQLite may still reference it, resulting in a use-after-free. This issue is fixed in version 2.9.5.

Technical Analysis

The sqlite3-ruby library, which provides Ruby bindings for the SQLite3 embedded database, contains a use-after-free vulnerability (CWE-416) in versions 2.9.4 and earlier. Specifically, redefining a SQLite function with a different arity causes the previously registered function handler to be freed prematurely, while SQLite may still hold references to it, leading to use-after-free conditions. This vulnerability is addressed and fixed in version 2.9.5.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability can lead to use-after-free conditions, which may cause application crashes or undefined behavior. Given the low CVSS score of 2.0 and the requirement for local access with high attack complexity, the impact is limited and does not indicate remote exploitation or privilege escalation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade sqlite3-ruby to version 2.9.5 or later, where this use-after-free issue is fixed. No other mitigation or temporary workaround is indicated. Patch status is confirmed by the version fix information provided.
