Published: 07/28/2026 (07/28/2026, 16:23:38 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: sparklemotion
Product: sqlite3-ruby

Description

sqlite3 provides Ruby bindings for the SQLite3 embedded database. From 2.1.0 to 2.9.4, the callbacks used for SQLite aggregate functions can be freed while still referenced during aggregation, resulting in a use-after-free. This issue is fixed in version 2.9.5.

Technical Analysis

The sqlite3-ruby library, which provides Ruby bindings for the SQLite3 embedded database, suffers from a use-after-free vulnerability (CWE-416) in its handling of aggregate function callbacks. Specifically, in versions 2.1.0 through 2.9.4, these callbacks may be freed while still being referenced during aggregation operations, potentially leading to undefined behavior or crashes. This issue was resolved in version 2.9.5.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability may cause application instability or crashes due to use-after-free memory access when using SQLite aggregate functions via the sqlite3-ruby bindings. The low CVSS score (2.0) and vector indicate that exploitation requires local access with high attack complexity and low privileges, limiting the impact scope.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade sqlite3-ruby to version 2.9.5 or later, where this use-after-free vulnerability is fixed. No other official remediation or temporary fixes are indicated. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the vendor advisory, but the description states the issue is fixed in 2.9.5.
