Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: pdovhomilja
Product: nextcrm-app

Description

NextCRM version 0.12.1 contains an improper access control vulnerability in its MCP campaign tools. The application uses Bearer API tokens for authentication and restricts normal users to campaigns they created. However, multiple campaign handlers ignore the authenticated user ID and allow operations based solely on campaign object IDs. This flaw enables low-privileged authenticated users to enumerate, read, update, delete, and modify campaigns owned by other users, including campaign templates and steps, and potentially control campaign delivery. Version 0.12.2 addresses this issue.

Technical Analysis

NextCRM (pdovhomilja nextcrm-app) version 0.12.1 suffers from an improper access control vulnerability (CWE-284) in its MCP campaign tools. The system exposes campaign read and write operations over the network using user-generated Bearer API tokens. Although the authorization model is intended to restrict users to their own campaigns, several campaign handlers bypass user ID checks and operate solely by campaign object ID. This allows authenticated users with valid MCP API tokens but low privileges to enumerate all campaigns, access details, modify, delete, and control campaigns owned by others. The vulnerability is fixed in version 0.12.2.

Potential Impact

An attacker with a valid low-privileged MCP API token can access and manipulate campaigns they do not own. This includes reading sensitive campaign details, updating or deleting campaigns, modifying campaign templates and steps, and potentially triggering or pausing campaign delivery. This leads to unauthorized disclosure, modification, and partial denial of service of campaign data and operations.

Mitigation Recommendations

Version 0.12.2 of nextcrm-app fixes this vulnerability by properly enforcing authorization checks on campaign operations. Users should upgrade to version 0.12.2 or later to remediate this issue. No official patch or temporary fix is indicated beyond upgrading. Until upgraded, restrict access to MCP API tokens and monitor for unauthorized campaign modifications.
