Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: allure-framework
Product: allure2

Description

Allure 2 is the version 2.x branch of Allure Report, a multi-language test reporting tool. Prior to 2.39.0, the ansi.js helper at allure-generator/src/main/javascript/helpers/ansi.js passes attacker-influenced statusMessage and statusTrace values through AnsiToHtml without HTML escaping and wraps the result in Handlebars SafeString, disabling template auto-escaping in allure-generator/src/main/javascript/blocks/status-details/status-details.hbs. JunitXmlPlugin.java can populate these fields directly from crafted JUnit XML failure messages and traces, and equivalent input flows exist in the TRX, xUnit XML, xctest, and Allure1 and Allure2 plugins. When a user views the affected status details, unescaped markup executes arbitrary JavaScript in the report origin, which can expose report data and compromise sessions associated with that origin. This is an incomplete-fix case because PR 3271 escaped link helpers but did not address the ANSI helper. This issue is fixed in version 2.39.0.

Technical Analysis

Allure 2 versions before 2.39.0 contain a cross-site scripting vulnerability due to improper neutralization of input during web page generation. The ansi.js helper passes attacker-influenced statusMessage and statusTrace values through AnsiToHtml without HTML escaping and wraps the result in Handlebars SafeString, disabling template auto-escaping. These fields can be populated from crafted JUnit XML failure messages and other plugin inputs. When a user views the affected status details, unescaped markup executes arbitrary JavaScript in the report origin, risking exposure of report data and session compromise. The vulnerability was incompletely fixed previously, with the ANSI helper escaping omitted. The issue is resolved in version 2.39.0.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of the report origin when viewing status details. This can lead to exposure of sensitive report data and compromise of user sessions associated with that origin. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 score of 6.1 (medium severity), indicating a significant but not critical risk.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to Allure 2 version 2.39.0 or later, where the vulnerability is fixed. Versions prior to 2.39.0 are affected. No other mitigation or temporary fix is indicated.
