VulnerabilityCVE-2026-57217cvecve-2026-57217cwe-863
Published: 07/10/2026 (07/10/2026, 20:25:29 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: rabbitmq
Product: rabbitmq-server

Description

RabbitMQ is a messaging and streaming broker. Prior to 3.13.15, 4.0.21, 4.1.11, and 4.2.6, RabbitMQ topic authorization can allow restricted topic writes and binds during metadata-store failures because topic-permission lookup errors from Khepri can collapse to undefined, which the internal backend treats as allow. This issue is fixed in versions 3.13.15, 4.0.21, 4.1.11, and 4.2.6.

Technical Analysis

RabbitMQ server versions before 3.13.15, 4.0.21, 4.1.11, and 4.2.6 have an authorization flaw (CWE-863) in topic permission enforcement. When the metadata store (Khepri) experiences failures, topic-permission lookup errors collapse to an undefined state, which the internal backend interprets as permission granted. This allows unauthorized topic writes and binds, potentially violating access controls. The vulnerability has a CVSS 4.0 score of 7.0 (high severity) and requires patching to the fixed versions to remediate.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows users with limited privileges to perform restricted topic writes and binds during metadata-store failures, effectively bypassing intended authorization controls. This could lead to unauthorized message publishing or binding to topics, potentially impacting message integrity and confidentiality within RabbitMQ deployments.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in RabbitMQ versions 3.13.15, 4.0.21, 4.1.11, and 4.2.6. Users should upgrade affected RabbitMQ server instances to these versions or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation guidance is provided by the vendor advisory.
