Description

CVE-2026-63622 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in libvirt on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. A process running as the confined swtpm user can exploit a symlink-following flaw in the virFileChownFiles() function to cause the root-level libvirt daemon to change ownership of arbitrary files to the swtpm user. This allows escalation from the swtpm sandbox to root-level file ownership control. The vulnerability affects the handling of symbolic links within the swtpm state directory. Mitigation is possible by removing the <tpm> device definition from the domain XML configuration if vTPM functionality is not required, preventing the vulnerable code path from being reached.
