Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-63688 is a Missing Authentication for Critical Function vulnerability (CWE-306) in Dell Container Storage Modules (CSM) prior to version 1.18.0. The vulnerability exists in the csm-authorization-storage gRPC server, where critical functions lack proper authentication controls. This allows unauthenticated remote attackers to potentially access storage backend administrator credentials for all registered storage arrays, posing a severe risk to system security and data integrity.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker exploiting this vulnerability could gain unauthorized access to sensitive administrator credentials for storage backends, potentially leading to full compromise of storage arrays. The impact affects confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the storage systems, as reflected by the CVSS 3.1 base score of 10.0 (critical).

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no patch or official fix information is provided, users should monitor Dell's advisories closely and implement compensating controls such as network segmentation or access restrictions to the csm-authorization-storage gRPC server until a fix is available.
