A patch is available and has been incorporated into fixed Linux kernel versions. Users should upgrade to one of the fixed kernel versions listed to remediate this vulnerability. The fix corrects the network namespace lookup logic and adds necessary capability checks to prevent unauthorized tunnel manipulation. No additional mitigation is required if the system is updated to a fixed version.
Description
CVE-2026-63921 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's IPv6 virtual tunnel interface (vti) subsystem. The flaw involves improper handling of network namespace references during tunnel migration, leading to incorrect tunnel lookups and potential cross-namespace packet delivery. This can allow an attacker with limited privileges in an unprivileged user namespace to manipulate tunnel parameters and cause packets to be delivered through a device controlled by the attacker, resulting in privilege escalation and system compromise. The issue has been fixed by correcting the lookup logic to use the correct network namespace and adding capability checks.
