AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been incorporated into fixed Linux kernel versions including multiple 5.15.0 releases and specific 4.4.0 builds. Users should update to these fixed kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
A race condition vulnerability in the Linux kernel's parport subsystem was fixed. The issue involved the registration of parallel port devices before full initialization, allowing client drivers to attach prematurely, which could cause system crashes. This was particularly problematic when port and client drivers were loaded as modules simultaneously during boot. The vulnerability has been addressed by adding a flag to ensure client drivers only attach after ports are fully announced.
