A patch is available and has been included in recent Ubuntu kernel updates. Users should apply these official kernel updates to remediate the vulnerability. Since the vendor has provided an official fix, applying the update is the recommended mitigation.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's USB Type-C alternate modes DisplayPort driver allowed a broken or malicious device to send an incorrect count for a status update VDO, causing the kernel to read uninitialized stack data and potentially leak sensitive information. This issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-28.28 and related builds. A patch is available and included in recent Ubuntu kernel updates. No known exploits are reported in the wild.
