An official fix is available and should be applied. The vulnerability has been resolved by adding proper length checks in the affected functions. Users should update to patched Linux kernel versions as provided by their distribution. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the vendor's official update.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's hwmon subsystem (specifically in the pmbus/adm1266 driver) allowed short block-read responses from devices to leak uninitialized kernel stack memory to userspace via GPIO accessors. This occurs because the code did not properly check the length of the data returned by i2c_smbus_read_block_data(), resulting in potential exposure of kernel stack bits. The issue has been fixed by adding proper length checks and returning an error on short responses.
