A patch is available and has been released in multiple fixed Linux kernel versions (notably 5.15.0-1116.123~20.04.1 and later). Users and administrators should update affected Linux kernel versions to these fixed releases to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
CVE-2026-64091 is a critical vulnerability in the Linux kernel's batman-adv tt subsystem involving a time-of-check to time-of-use (TOCTOU) race condition when handling VLANs. The issue arises because the buffer size for VLAN entries is initially calculated based on a prefilter check, but the actual number of TT entries per VLAN can increase during processing, potentially causing buffer overflows or memory corruption. This flaw was fixed by overestimating the buffer size initially and then filling it only with non-empty VLANs.
