A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel. Users and administrators should upgrade to the fixed version 6.4 or later that includes the patch. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, applying the official kernel update is the recommended mitigation.

Description

CVE-2026-64117 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mac80211 WiFi subsystem. It occurs because the code reads RX status from memory that may have been zeroed or freed prematurely during mesh data forwarding. This flaw can lead to memory corruption and potentially allow an attacker to cause denial of service or escalate privileges. The issue is fixed by capturing the RX rate before the mesh reuses the skb control buffer. The vulnerability affects Linux kernel version 6.4 and has a high severity rating with a CVSS score of 8.8.
