Description

CVE-2026-64205 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's i2c-i801 driver that causes hardware state machine corruption in the error handling path. This leads to a severe livelock and a hung task panic due to continuous error logging and CPU starvation. The issue arises when the SMBus controller is busy, causing improper hardware register cleanup that interrupts BIOS/ACPI transactions and corrupts the SMBus state machine. The flaw is fixed by adjusting the error handling code to avoid releasing hardware resources that were never acquired.
