A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel. The memory allocation for vevent queues has been moved outside the spinlock and uses GFP_NOWAIT to prevent exhausting atomic memory reserves. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions identified by the provided commit hashes to remediate this vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's iommufd component involved memory allocation for vevent queues occurring inside a spinlock, allowing userspace to allocate large queues that could exhaust atomic memory reserves. The issue has been fixed by moving the memory allocation outside the spinlock and using GFP_NOWAIT to avoid depleting atomic reserves. On allocation failure, the kernel notifies userspace of dropped events and returns an error code. This fix prevents kernel memory exhaustion caused by user-controlled queue sizes.
