AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied. The issue is fixed by adding a .remove callback that stops the hardware and drains the timer to prevent use-after-free. Users should upgrade to Linux kernel versions 6.8.0-147.147 or later, or the corresponding fixed versions listed. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel's HID letsketch driver due to a missing .remove callback that fails to properly stop and drain a per-device timer on driver unbind. This can cause the timer callback to access freed memory, leading to potential memory corruption and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The issue is fixed by adding a .remove callback that stops the hardware and synchronously drains the timer. Multiple Linux kernel versions are affected and patches have been released.
