AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability is available in updated Linux kernel versions. Users should apply the official patches provided by their Linux distribution or kernel vendor. The Ubuntu advisory USN-8876-1 confirms that this and other kernel vulnerabilities have been addressed. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official kernel updates.

Description

A use-after-free vulnerability was identified and fixed in the Linux kernel's RDMA rxe_mmap component. The flaw occurs when rxe_mmap() removes a rxe_mmap_info struct from a list and releases a lock while the struct's reference count is still one, leading to a race condition with concurrent operations that can free the struct prematurely. This can cause kernel crashes or a page-level use-after-free condition. Exploitation requires a precise timing window, making it difficult but possible. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 7.8 (high severity).
