Technical Analysis

Frappe HRMS versions prior to 15.58.3 and versions from 16.0.0 up to but not including 16.4.3 have a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the PWA API endpoints handling employee data. This flaw allows an authenticated user to request and access records associated with other employees without proper authorization. The vulnerability is resolved in versions 15.58.3 and 16.4.3.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated user to access sensitive human resources data belonging to other employees, potentially leading to unauthorized disclosure of personal or confidential information. The vulnerability does not affect integrity or availability but compromises confidentiality.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to Frappe HRMS version 15.58.3 or later in the 15.x series, or version 16.4.3 or later in the 16.x series, where the authorization checks for PWA API endpoints have been fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
