AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vulnerability has been officially fixed by rooting the create walk at the share to prevent path traversal outside the SMB2 export. Users should update to patched kernel versions as listed in the affected versions. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ksmbd component allows an authenticated client to escape the intended SMB2 share root directory due to improper path resolution in ksmbd_vfs_kern_path_create. This occurs because the create/mkdir/hardlink path resolution is not properly rooted, enabling traversal outside the share via '..' components. The issue has been fixed by rooting the create walk at the share, aligning it with the lookup and rename paths.
