A fix is available and has been applied in multiple Linux kernel commits. Users should update their Linux kernel to a version including these fixes to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation is required if the system is updated.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's binfmt_misc subsystem allows unprivileged users to cause a NULL pointer dereference during binary execution. This occurs because the have_execfd flag is set prematurely before the interpreter is successfully opened, leading to inconsistent state and a crash in begin_new_exec(). The flaw can be triggered by mounting binfmt_misc in user namespaces and registering a crafted 'O' entry with an interpreter on a FUSE mount that fails to open. The issue is fixed in several Linux kernel commits.
