A fix for this vulnerability is available and has been applied in multiple Linux kernel commits. Users running non-MMU (CONFIG_MMU=n) Linux kernels should update to a fixed kernel version containing these commits. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official kernel patches.
Description
CVE-2026-68187 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel affecting non-MMU (CONFIG_MMU=n) builds. It involves an unsigned loop counter wrap in the transfer_args_to_stack() function used by binfmt_flat and binfmt_elf_fdpic. This flaw can cause out-of-bounds memory access during argument copying, potentially leading to kernel faults or panics. The issue arises when the stop value becomes zero, causing the loop counter to wrap and read invalid memory. The vulnerability has been fixed in multiple Linux kernel commits.
