A patch addressing this vulnerability is available and should be applied promptly. The vendor has released updates for the affected linux-azure kernel versions. Users should upgrade to the fixed kernel versions to prevent exploitation. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's drm/vc4 driver allowed validated shader buffer objects (BOs) to be mapped writable by userspace, bypassing the shader validation process. This was due to the function vc4_gem_object_mmap() rejecting writable mappings but leaving the VM_MAYWRITE flag set, enabling userspace to escalate a read-only mapping to writable via mprotect(). The issue has been fixed by clearing VM_MAYWRITE on the read-only path to prevent writable upgrades. This vulnerability affects specific linux-azure kernel versions and has a high severity rating with a CVSS score of 7.8. A patch is available and has been released by the vendor.
