A patch is available that rejects Memory Stick cards reporting more blocks than the supported maximum (MS_MAX_ZONES * MS_BLOCKS_IN_ZONE). Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the vendor-provided patch.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Memory Stick (memstick) subsystem was resolved. The issue involved the ms_block driver accepting Memory Stick cards that report an excessive number of blocks, leading to out-of-bounds writes in the msb_data structure. This could cause memory corruption due to indexing beyond fixed array bounds. The flaw was fixed by rejecting cards reporting more blocks than the maximum supported zones multiplied by blocks per zone.
