Published: 08/04/2026 (08/04/2026, 21:21:30 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: odysseus-dev
Product: odysseus

Description

CVE-2026-70619 is a missing authorization vulnerability in odysseus before commit bf325f6. Authenticated non-admin users can access server-wide embedding backend configuration management endpoints that lack admin authorization checks. This allows attackers to overwrite or delete the embedding backend configuration, potentially causing sensitive embedding data to be sent in plaintext to attacker-controlled destinations or disrupting embedding services for all users.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in odysseus prior to commit bf325f6 arises from missing authorization guards on endpoint management routes. While these routes verify session authentication, they do not enforce admin-level authorization. As a result, authenticated users without admin privileges can manipulate the embedding backend configuration by supplying attacker-controlled URLs. This manipulation can lead to the exposure of embedding operations data—including chat messages, RAG queries, memory entries, and vault text—in plaintext to an attacker-controlled endpoint, or denial of embedding services by deleting the configuration.

Potential Impact

An attacker with valid non-admin credentials can exploit this vulnerability to redirect sensitive embedding data to an attacker-controlled destination, compromising confidentiality. Alternatively, they can delete the embedding backend configuration, causing denial of embedding services for all users. This impacts data confidentiality and availability of embedding features within odysseus.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to embedding backend configuration management endpoints to trusted administrators only, and monitor for unauthorized configuration changes.
