A patch is available and should be applied to affected linux-aws kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms the fix is included in updated kernel packages. Users should update to patched kernel versions to remediate this vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ip_vti component allowed modification of tunnel interfaces across network namespaces without proper privilege checks. The issue was that the capability CAP_NET_ADMIN was only checked in one network namespace, enabling a caller with privileges in that namespace but not in the tunnel's namespace to rewrite the tunnel. This has been fixed by requiring CAP_NET_ADMIN in the device's network namespace before any changes are made. The vulnerability affects specific linux-aws kernel versions and has a high CVSS score of 8.8. A patch is available.
