AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to address this vulnerability. The fix includes proper bounds checking and validation of PR-OUT TransportID parameters to prevent out-of-bounds reads. Users should update to patched kernel versions as provided by their Linux distribution vendors. No additional mitigations are required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SCSI target subsystem involving improper bounds checking in parsing Persistent Reserve Out (PR-OUT) TransportID parameters has been resolved. The flaw allows an initiator to submit a malformed iSCSI TransportID that causes an out-of-bounds read, potentially leading to a kernel crash (KASAN vmalloc-out-of-bounds). The issue affects devices exported through iSCSI Target Portal Groups (TPG), including guests via vhost-scsi. The vulnerability is addressed by adding proper length checks and bounding string operations to prevent buffer over-reads.
