AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The fix enforces minimum buffer length checks in nvmet_execute_auth_receive() to prevent short AUTH_RECEIVE buffers from being processed. Systems using in-band DH-HMAC-CHAP authentication on NVMe targets should update to a fixed kernel version as per the vendor advisory. No additional mitigations are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NVMe target authentication (nvmet-auth) subsystem was resolved. The flaw occurs when the nvmet_execute_auth_receive() function trusts the AUTH_RECEIVE buffer length without sufficient validation, allowing a remote NVMe-oF initiator to trigger a 16-byte heap overflow by providing a one-byte allocation length. This vulnerability affects systems configured with in-band DH-HMAC-CHAP authentication on the NVMe target. The issue has been fixed by adding stricter length checks to reject commands with insufficient buffer sizes before processing.
