AI-suggested
An official patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The patch enforces validation to reject split-points whose declared size exceeds buffer boundaries, preventing the out-of-bounds write. Users should update their Linux kernel to a fixed version as provided by their distribution. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NTFS3 filesystem driver allows a crafted NTFS image to trigger an out-of-bounds kernel write during filesystem mount. This occurs due to improper validation of split-point offsets in the indx_insert_into_buffer function, leading to a kernel panic. The flaw requires local mounting of a malicious filesystem image and affects multiple Linux kernel versions. A patch is available to fix the issue.
