A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ntfs3 driver allows a crafted NTFS filesystem image to trigger an out-of-bounds kernel write. This occurs due to improper validation of split-point offsets in the indx_insert_into_buffer function, leading to a large memmove operation that corrupts kernel memory and causes a kernel panic. The flaw requires local mounting of a malicious NTFS image via USB, loopback, or removable media. The issue was fixed by adding validation to reject split points that extend beyond the buffer boundary.
