A patch is available that fixes this vulnerability by adding checks to prevent a VF from clearing PF MCAM rules. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates for the affected versions. The vendor advisory confirms the availability of a fix. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's octeontx2-af driver allowed a virtual function (VF) bringup to inadvertently clear the physical function's (PF) promiscuous and all-multicast (allmulti) MCAM rules. This occurred because the APIs controlling these rules operated only on the PF, even when requests came from a VF interface. The issue was fixed by adding checks to prevent a VF from affecting the PF's MCAM rules. Multiple specific Linux kernel versions are affected.
