Published: 08/11/2026 (08/11/2026, 09:13:14 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: MISP
Product: cti-transmute

Description

MISP cti-transmute versions up to 1.4.0 have a Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) vulnerability. Several state-changing account operations were exposed as GET requests, which could be triggered by third-party sites without user consent. The vulnerability allows attackers to induce authenticated users' browsers to perform unwanted actions. The issue was fixed by changing these operations to use POST or DELETE methods and adding an X-CSRFToken header for explicit CSRF protection.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-73162 describes a CSRF vulnerability in MISP cti-transmute affecting versions up to 1.4.0. The vulnerability arises because several authenticated state-changing endpoints (/account/follow, /account/delete_notification, /account/mark_notification_read, /account/mark_all_read) were accessible via GET requests. This design flaw allows a third-party website to trick a user's browser into sending authenticated GET requests, performing unwanted actions on the user's behalf. The patch changes these endpoints to use POST or DELETE methods and requires an X-CSRFToken header, mitigating the CSRF risk.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause an authenticated user to perform unintended state-changing actions on their account by exploiting the CSRF vulnerability. This could lead to unauthorized following of accounts, deletion or marking of notifications as read without user consent. However, the vulnerability requires user interaction (UI:P) and does not allow privilege escalation or code execution. The CVSS 4.0 score is 5.3 (medium severity).

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available that changes the vulnerable endpoints to use POST or DELETE methods and enforces the use of an X-CSRFToken header for CSRF protection. Users and administrators should upgrade to versions later than 1.4.0 where this patch is applied. Since no official patch link or advisory is provided, verify with the MISP project for the fixed version and apply updates accordingly.
